Telangana DGP reviews Maoist situation, commends SIB for anti-extremist operations

Hyderabad, May 18 (UNI) Telangana Director General of Police C V Anand on Monday visited the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) and reviewed the present Maoist situation in the state along with ongoing anti-extremist operations and intelligence initiatives.
Additional DGP Intelligence Vijay Kumar and IGP Intelligence & SIB Kartikeya were also present during the review meeting.
The DGP appreciated the efforts of SIB officers and staff in countering Left Wing Extremism and facilitating the surrender of underground CPI (Maoist) cadres.
According to officials, between 2024 and 2026, around 820 Maoist cadres surrendered before Telangana Police, including four Central Committee Members, 22 State Committee Members, one Regional Committee Member, 45 Divisional Committee Members and 173 Area Committee Members.
Police said a total of 334 firearms were surrendered during the period, including 58 AK-47 rifles, 48 INSAS rifles, 50 SLRs and six LMGs, besides other sophisticated weapons.
The DGP praised SIB for its intelligence-based operations, rehabilitation initiatives and efforts to encourage Maoist cadres to return to the mainstream.
He also reviewed rehabilitation and reintegration measures for surrendered cadres and stressed the need for continued monitoring, reskilling, employment-oriented training and social integration.
Advising officers on emerging security challenges, Anand said the SIB should adapt to changing policing needs by studying evolving social trends, social media influence and issues affecting youth and public order in Telangana, according to a statement released from the DGP's office.
